Stability of the atmosphere, and the height-dependence of the temperature
The relation of the stability of the atmosphere and the dependence of its temperature on height is studied. It is shown that if the derivative of the temperature with respect to the height is larger than a certain (negative) value, convection currents are not built and the atmosphere remains stable.
